The class context
The classroom context is a year 6/7 class. There are 16 year 6 students and 16 year 7 students with 32 students in the class. When planning for this context both year level standards need to be consulted and developed based on the Australian Curriculum (Australian Curriculum Assessment Reporting Authority 2016).
One student is on a Negotiated Educational plan (NEP). This plan is in place to best support the learner to thrive in their environment. This particular learner is to be supported by developing the literacy competencies in areas of oral language, vocabulary and comprehension. This is implemented in the proposed plan by putting this student within a group so they can be supported with individual reflection coupled by group discussion.
There is no cultural diversity in the class that would impact the planning or preparation of learning experiences. The gender split is more male with 18 male students and 14 female. Diversity needs to be considered, as there are a number of students that preform both lower and higher than the year level average variation needs to be included when planning. This is achieved by promoting group work where students can work with others to develop knowledge and competencies through social interactions.
When creating learning opportunities students abilities and interests are considered. Diversification is considered so that learning experiences can be tailored to support all learners.
