Teachers and schools must assess for a variety of reasons. A list of reasons has been compiled below:
1. There are many stakeholders with vested interest in education. These include government bodies, parents and caregivers, communities and school leadership.
2. It is used to inform government on education reform and funding.
3. Provides school leadership with information on progress which may determine support and resource distribution.
4. Provides information to educators about student understanding and abilities as a tool to identify areas of strength and weakness. This information is used to inform future planning processes to support learning of intended outcomes.
5. Demonstrates an evidence of learning for the student and teacher to refer to. Also provides a means to report on to demonstrate this knowledge to parents and caregivers.
