The role of the teacher
In a practical context pre-service teachers are able to experience the daily life of a teacher. It soon becomes evident that teachers hold many roles outside of simply teaching. teachers are members of a school community and thus have many responsibilities outside of the classroom. Depending on the site these roles may include:

- Before school, after school, lunch or recess duties
- Communicating with other staff members and leadership
- Attending professional development sessions and days
- Abiding and supporting school protocol and policy
- Liasing with administration in regards to issues and absences
- Solving problems between students
- Administering first aid
- Having a duty of care of all students physical and emotional wellbeing
- supporting diverse learners whether this is culturally, disabillity- either physical, mental or emotional diversity.
- Mandatory reporting
- Communicating with educational support officers
- Being alert to students needs and feelings
- Organising planned and prepared learning experiences
- Organising resources
- Meeting assessment and learning requirements
- Being prepared for unexpected and planned events such as performances and assemblies
- Communicating both successes and concerns with parents
- Making time for parent meetings in required
